Festivals in the Houston area are often projected to take place within the perimeters of Downtown or Midtown. However, it is important to not forget about the communities that lie outside of the city limit. Family-friendly festivals give communities exposure to non-profit organizations and other services.
The Woodlands Family Fun Fest took place in Montgomery County on Saturday March 19, 2016. The event took place at Town Green Park, 2099 Lake Robbins Drive. The festival lasted from 10:00am to 4:00pm and attendees were given free admission. Houston Area Shows (H.A.S.) presented the event, which included food, vending, carnival activities, and live music.
The most notable vendor tent at the event was Hands Up Global Goods (HUGG). The organization, only one year and two months old, is doing great things for Haiti. Through the HUGG program, eight Haitian artisans learn the craft of creating bracelets then sell them to communities in America. These artisans are former children of the streets who have changed their lives around with assistance from HUGG. This organization is continuing to grow with the help of volunteers. All proceeds go toward the wages for the eight artisans who have created the jewelry.
