The History of SXSW Festival

Walking down Sixth Street, a non-synchronous stream of sounds can be heard blaring through open windows of bars with drink specials and being lights. A saxophonist from Dallas plays her story on the left sidewalk, while the right sidewalk presents a bare-footed, exhausted-looking band--who looks like they haven't showered in a week--belt out the soulful sounds they wouldn't dare reveal in their little Oregon hometown. South by Southwest (SXSW) has grown immensely since its humble beginnings in 1986. Austin's local creatives were searching for a way to share their music outside of the city, but invented an alluring idea of creating a festival to not only showcase local musicians, but musicians from around the globe. Seven years later, interactive events and film were introduced and SXSW has transformed into an event where creative people from everywhere meet in order to have a chance at developing their careers. Check out a few artists hailing from Houston, who shined at SXSW this year!
